Thank you for taking my free Cake Decorating for the Metal Clay Artist class. When I was beta testing this class, some of my students could access everything and some of my students could not access the videos attached to the leaf buttons. This is based on many factors like operating system, browser, available ram, provider, etc. Therefore, I have two versions of this class. The button on the left is the full version of the leaf section of this class. If you have any problems seeing the videos of the leaves being created, stop the class and come back to this page. Then click the button on the right. This is a version of the class without videos.
Background information on the class:
I started using cake decorating techniques with a silver metal clay syringe in my Art Clay Silver Certification Class in 1999 by altering the flat metal clay tips. These tips are no longer available by Art Clay Silver but they are available by PMC sources.
When I demonstrate the syringe in classes, I tell my students to take a cake decorating class because it will open a whole new world of 'kitchen table silver-smithing' with metal clay. I still believe that learning cake decorating techniques will enhance your metal clay experience but since most students have asked me to scale the actual cake decorating class down to just the basics that are needed in metal clay, I have created this interactive web class to teach the first in a series of cake decorating classes for the metal clay artist called leaves. Subsequent classes will include flowers and piping.
My husband and business partner makes each of these tips by hand and there are four traditional cake decorating tips - leaf, rose, star and flat. In addition to these tips, we have added a tip that we call the ridge which is very similar to the cake decorating tips. There are two more tips in the kit called the square and the triangle. Although these are not traditional cake decorating tips, they are an interesting addition to your metal clay projects.
Each leaf button consists of two videos. The first video demonstration is with icing and the second video demonstration is with the silver clay. If you want to skip the icing video and go to the silver clay video, press the forward key once.
Our beta testers had mixed feelings about the speed of the audio. We felt that the best way to address this at this point was to add a PDF that has the audio in a file that the user can read if the audio is too fast.
Thank you for viewing my new class and I appreciate any suggestions on how to make it better.
Cherish Roundstream for so many things that this class would not have been possible without her; Paul Roundstream for capturing the video and photography work; and Leslie Bivens (Captivate Designer) for creating this awesome design.
The kit includes a CD of the class, a Booklet in PDF, empty syringe, 3 tubes of toothpaste, nail and washer*.
*We are going to update this class to include using the washer to help extrude the clay from the syringe. It is a great tip that we recently learned from Lorrene Baum-Davis in her new book called Setting Gemstones Into Metal Clay and Making a Wearable Studio Sampler. Her website is www.lorrenedavisdesigns.com.
