Thank you for coming to my website.
In 1999 I started teaching Art Clay Silver and became certified at that time to teach the teachers. Because metal clay was new, every time you mentioned metal clay to someone, they thought you were crazy (or at least delusional).
A lot of metal clay artists have expanded their knowledge into the more traditional forms of jewelry techniques. I have been combining metal clay with form folding metal, riveting, soldering, and my personal favorite enameling.
I am currently taking some time off to attend the Paris Junior College Jewelry Technology Program. During this time, I will only be teaching on Saturdays. If you are interested in taking one of my 3 or 6 hour classes, please email me with the class name, dates you are available and the method you want to be contacted (i.e. email, cell phone or home phone).
So what is Silver Art Clay?
Art Clay Silver is a pure silver material in clay form. It is water-based and can be freely modeled like clay. It is made of finely powdered pure silver, water and a non-toxic organic binder. After it is shaped, dried and heated in a kiln or fired with a torch, water and binding agents burn off, leaving only pure silver retaining its modeled shape. Art Clay Silver comes in several forms including clay, paste, syringe and paper type. This is a very easy medium to work with and you can create one of a kind silver pieces. You do not need to purchase many special tools, but the clay will need to be fired. There are special kilns that have been created just for the silver clay. There are a lot of firing stations around the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and I also teach how to fire the metal clay with an inexpensive creme brulee torch.
